Our environmental policy includes a commitment to greener vehicles. International forwarding Limited is committed to conducting the business of the Company with due regard to the protection and preservation of the environment.

We operate our transport fleet using vehicles which satisfy current emission standards. Our policy is to only purchase new vehicles which comply with the latest Euro emission standards.

Low Carbon FootprintM

For example, our latest Scania trucks are fitted with Scania EGR technology. EGR is exhaust gas recirculation technology which attacks emissions at source - in the combustion chamber. Standard diesel pump fuel is used without the need for additives or any other substances. EGR works by cooling some of the exhaust gases and feeding them back into the engine which achieves a lower combustion temperature, which in turn gives lower nitrogen oxide (Nox) emission and high injection pressures produce lower particulates. Emissions are reduced in all conditions, including highway driving and long haulage as well as low speed stop and go in urban areas etc.

When our trucks come to the end of their economical working life, we are able to take them to a recycling plant so that salvageable and reusable parts can be used on other vehicles thus reducing the environmental impact as far as possible. All our trucks use the highest quality diesel and fuel consumption figures are closely monitored and analysed so that we are able to spot any potential problems. We have a very strict maintenance programme in place for all of our fleet vehicles to ensure that they are operating reliably, efficiently and as cleanly as possible. We have a daily defect reporting system in place which monitors various areas, but includes fluid levels and tyre pressures etc.

Tyre pressures are especially important, as one of the contributing factors in fuel consumption is the amount of rolling resistance that the engine has to overcome to physically move the vehicle. By ensuring that tyre pressures are constantly maintained to the correct levels, the rolling resistance of the vehicle is kept to the lowest possible level and therefore the power used to keep the vehicle moving is kept to a minimum which, in turn means that lower fuel consumption and emissions are achieved.

Waste Disposal

We dispose of waste in accordance with the Environmental Protection Act 1990 and the Environmental Protection (Duty of Care) Regulations 1991, and are licensed by the Department of the Environment to carry waste products.

We handle hazardous goods in accordance with current legislation relating to storage, handling and transport of such goods, and we also employ a fully qualified Dangerous Goods Safety Advisor (DGSA).

We conduct all business with due regard to local environmental considerations including the avoidance of undue noise and disturbance to local residents. Training is made available to all members of staff on matters relating to the protection and preservation of the environment.
